20 December 2012: The Faldo Series will celebrate five years of bringing opportunity to young golfers in Thailand when the global golf development programme tees off at Muang Ake Wang Noi Golf Course near Bangkok on February 2-3, 2013.

3 January 2012: The Faldo Series will return to the Kingdom of Thailand for the fourth edition of its Thailand Championship on February 18-19, 2012 at Blue Sapphire Golf and Resort in Kanchanaburi.  Flood damage has forced organisers to announce a new date and venue to ensure that the Series can still go ahead and bring opportunity to Thailand’s top young golfers.

More than 100 golfers aged 12 to 21 will compete over two days in the province of Ayutthaya, 50 kilometres from the capital city of Bangkok, when the fifth Faldo Series Thailand Championship arrives at Muang Ake Wang Noi for the first time.

The field for the Thailand event, which is open to all nationalities, will be divided into five age categories, three for boys (Under 21, Under 18 and Under 16) and two for girls (Under 21 and Under 16).  The winners of each division over 36 holes at Blue Sapphire, located 100 kilometres from Bangkok, will qualify for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in China, won by Thailand’s Nakarin Ratanakul in 2007.

With the field divided into five age-groups, three boys and two girls will qualify to join Sir Nick Faldo at the seventh Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in China on March 13-15, 2013.  Past Thai winners of the World Amateur Golf Ranking event in Shenzhen include inaugural champion Nakarin Ratanakul in 2007 and girls’ winner Thidapa Suwannapura in 2010.

The sixth Grand Final, a World Amateur Golf Ranking event, will be hosted by six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen on March 14-16, 2012.

The Faldo Series will also continue its drive to boost grassroots golf in Thailand.  In conjunction with tournament organisers, the Thai Students Golf Union, local schoolchildren will be invited to watch competitors in action and attend a free golf clinic.

Established in 1996, 37 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 27 countries worldwide with more than 5,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
